Rowe Sanctuary is situated along the Platte River in south-central Nebraska. This area is renowned for being a crucial habitat for migratory sandhill cranes during their northward journey each spring. The sanctuary encompasses approximately 1,150 acres of riverine wetlands, native prairie, and woodlands. The Platte River provides essential rest and refueling stops for hundreds of thousands of cranes and numerous other bird species. Managed by the National Audubon Society, Rowe Sanctuary is committed to conserving and restoring these habitats to ensure the survival of these majestic birds. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts flock to Rowe Sanctuary, especially in March and early April, to witness the incredible spectacle of the crane migration. The sanctuary offers guided tours and viewing blinds for visitors to experience the cranes roosting on the river. Apart from the cranes, visitors can enjoy diverse plant and animal species throughout the year, engaging in activities like hiking and photography.
